How payments work in BigCommerce
BigCommerce has a built-in list of payment providers, called embedded providers. That list includes Stripe, Adyen, PayPal Braintree, Global Payments and Fortis. A payment provider is the company that handles the card payment for your online store.
Authorize.Net's partner directory lists BigCommerce as a supported platform, so Authorize.Net still works as an outside gateway. A gateway is the connection that passes each sale from your store to the company that settles your card money.
BigCommerce's pricing page, updated for plans starting June 1, 2026, lists an Open Payment Provider Fee of 2.0%, 1.0% or 0.6% depending on your plan, and 0.0% on one plan with a contract. Check the page for your own plan.
What we are checking for you
- Which plan you are on, and which fee line applies to you.
- Whether your current provider is on the BigCommerce list or counts as an outside provider.
- What a different connection would involve, including saved cards and recurring orders.
- Your contract end date and any early cancellation fee with your current processor.
Questions merchants ask
Is there a penalty for not using BigCommerce's own payment partners?
BigCommerce's pricing page lists an Open Payment Provider Fee for providers outside its embedded list. Whether it applies to you depends on your plan and your provider, so we check your plan first.
Can I still use Authorize.Net with BigCommerce?
Yes. Authorize.Net's partner directory lists BigCommerce. Because Authorize.Net is not on BigCommerce's embedded list, the Open Payment Provider Fee on your plan is the part to check.
When does my money arrive after a sale?
Payout timing is set by the company that processes your cards, and it shows on your statement. Ask before you change anything, because a new setup can start its own schedule.
What happens to saved cards if I change providers?
Saved cards move only if your current gateway releases them to the new one. Ask first, and plan for some customers to re-enter a card.
