Restaurant & Retail Technology

Technology That Keeps Restaurants & Retailers Running

From POS systems and payment processing to secure WiFi and PCI compliance, we handle the technology so you can focus on serving customers and growing your business.

Are You Dealing With...

These are the technology and payment challenges restaurant owners and retail operators tell us about every week.

PCI-DSS Compliance Burden

Every business that accepts credit cards must comply with PCI-DSS. Non-compliance means fines, increased processing fees, and liability for fraudulent transactions after a breach.

POS Reliability

When your point-of-sale system goes down during a lunch rush or Saturday dinner service, you lose revenue and customers. POS uptime is not an IT issue. It is a revenue issue.

Guest WiFi Security

Customers expect free WiFi, but an unsegmented guest network gives attackers a path to your POS system and back-office computers. Most restaurant and retail WiFi setups are improperly configured.

Payment Processing Costs

You are likely overpaying for payment processing. Hidden fees, non-qualified surcharges, and outdated terminal configurations silently inflate your effective rate month after month.

What We Do for Restaurants & Retail

End-to-end technology and payment solutions designed for the pace and demands of food service and retail operations.

SkyTab POS

A modern, cloud-based POS system designed for restaurants and retail. SkyTab handles ordering, payments, inventory, and reporting, with built-in PCI compliance and no long-term contracts.

Payment Processing

Transparent, competitive payment processing with no hidden fees. We analyze your current statements, identify where you are overpaying, and move you to a plan that saves money from day one.

Business Internet

Reliable fiber and cable internet with proper network segmentation for POS, back-office, and guest WiFi. We manage the provider relationship, handle outages, and ensure your connectivity supports your business.

Managed WiFi and Network Security

Properly segmented networks with dedicated VLANs for POS, back-office, and guest traffic. Firewall management, intrusion detection, and PCI-compliant configurations maintained and monitored 24/7.

Your stack, supported

We don't ask you to rip out what's working

Norvet integrates with the POS, KDS, online-ordering, reservations, and back-office systems your front-of-house and kitchen staff already know. We harden, monitor, back up, and recover that stack. We don't replace it.

POS systems

Tonic, Square for Restaurants, Toast, Clover, SkyTab, TouchBistro, Lightspeed Restaurant (K-Series), Lavu, Aloha

Kitchen display + printing

KitchenView, Square KDS, Toast KDS, Tonic KDS, Fresh KDS, Epson U220 printers, Star Micronics, PrintHub queue

Online ordering + delivery

ChowNow, Toast Online Ordering, BentoBox, Olo, Lunchbox, Ordermark, DoorDash Drive, UberEats / Grubhub integrations

Reservations + waitlist

OpenTable, Tock, Resy, Yelp Reservations, SevenRooms, NextMe, Waitwhile

Security stack we add alongside

SentinelOne EDR, Sophos MDR + endpoint, 24/7 managed SOC, KnowBe4 awareness training, Veeam immutable backup, PCI-DSS payment network segmentation, Cradlepoint 5G/LTE failover for register continuity

Compliance & operational frameworks

PCI-DSS 4.0 (cardholder data), state alcohol + tobacco licensing rules, FDA Food Code (where applicable), ADA online-ordering accessibility, local health-department POS-reporting requirements

Running something not listed here? Most restaurant + retail stacks combine 4–6 of the systems above with a long tail of vendor-specific tools. Tell us what you have and we'll tell you honestly which pieces we've supported in production.

Anti-disruption

What bad restaurant IT vendors do — and we don't

We hear the same four complaints from operators switching off another IT vendor. If any of these sound familiar, Norvet works differently on purpose.

Bad vendor: They push router or firewall firmware updates during dinner rush.

Norvet: Patch + reboot windows are scoped to your daypart and your peak. For dinner-only spots, that’s 2am to 9am. For brunch-driven cafes, that’s late afternoon. The rule: when guests are at tables, change requests get held.

Bad vendor: They put back-office wifi on the same VLAN as the POS network. End-of-day reconciliation traffic slows down register transactions.

Norvet: POS network, KDS network, back-office wifi, and customer guest wifi are segmented. Each gets its own bandwidth allocation. The kitchen tablet stays fast when the manager runs the daily close.

Bad vendor: They don’t pre-stage register or KDS hardware. A printer dies Friday at 6pm — replacement arrives Monday at 10am.

Norvet: For every store we run, we keep replacement printers, KDS tablets, and routers staged. A peak-hour hardware failure is a 20-minute swap, not a 4-day outage.

Bad vendor: They sell "24/7 monitoring" but their alerts don’t fire on the actual signals that matter — print-queue depth, POS-to-processor latency, online-order webhook failures.

Norvet: We monitor the signals that map to revenue: payment-processor round-trip time, printer queue depth, KDS heartbeat, online-order webhook success rate. Alerts page humans within minutes, not the next business day.

Extends what works

We extend what's working — we don't replace it

Most operators come to us already running a POS, a KDS, an online-ordering platform, and a reservations vendor their staff knows. Our job is to harden, monitor, back up, and recover that stack. When something genuinely needs replacing, we say so honestly and let your accountant see the math.

  • We deploy 24/7 SOC monitoring and EDR next to your existing antivirus — not over the top of it.
  • We add encrypted offsite backup without disrupting your POS sync or your online-ordering vendor’s webhook integration.
  • We tune VLAN segmentation around your POS network, KDS network, back-office wifi, and customer guest wifi — not around our standard template.
  • We adopt your store’s peak rhythm. Patch windows happen after close, never during a Saturday brunch or a Friday dinner rush.
  • We pre-stage replacement registers, KDS tablets, and printers so a peak-hour hardware failure is a 20-minute swap, not a 4-day wait.
  • We document everything we touch in your operator system, not in a private wiki our team owns. If you ever offboard from Norvet, you keep the runbook.

What an engagement looks like

Multi-location restaurant rollout

What a multi-location POS + payments engagement involves

Multi-location restaurant groups typically come to Norvet with two pain points: legacy terminals stacking up hidden processing fees, and POS systems that crash during peak service. The standard engagement consolidates both onto SkyTab plus Norvet-managed networking: terminal hardware, segmented network, statement benchmarking, and on-call support. We publish the actual rate-vs-rate comparison on your statements before you sign.

  • Replace legacy POS with SkyTab across every location
  • Segmented networking: POS isolated from guest Wi-Fi (PCI scope discipline)
  • Statement-by-statement processing-rate benchmark before signature
  • On-call POS support during peak hours (Fri/Sat evenings, holidays)
