Restaurant POS migration guide

Switching from TouchBistro to SkyTab: restaurant owner checklist

A point-of-sale system (POS) is the software and hardware that takes orders and payments, and a kitchen display screen (KDS) is the screen that shows orders to the kitchen. A TouchBistro restaurant should compare the full operating workflow, not just monthly software price. Map tables, menus, staff permissions, reservations, loyalty, payments, integrations, and hardware before choosing the replacement configuration and cutover date.

What needs to be compared before you leave TouchBistro

A POS switch is a business-process migration. The safe sequence is source capture, field mapping, owner approval, target configuration, testing, cutover, and acceptance. Do not cancel the source system until the records and workflows you need have been accounted for.

  • Table layout, seat service, tabs, splits, tips, and payment workflow
  • Menu and modifier structure
  • Reservations, loyalty, gift cards, and online ordering
  • Employee permissions and reporting
  • Hardware, Wi-Fi, printers, KDS, and kitchen routing

Export this before canceling TouchBistro

  • Menu / modifier records
  • Customer and loyalty data available for export
  • Reservation records needed for transition
  • Employee / permission references
  • Sales / tax / settlement reports
  • Hardware and integration inventory

Watch-outs

Reservation, loyalty, and gift-card workflows need explicit migration decisions.

Tablet / payment hardware compatibility should be confirmed, not assumed.

Integration parity matters more than feature-list parity for established restaurants.

Plan staff training around the actual roles that use the POS.

Conversion-path note

Norvet treats TouchBistro-to-SkyTab as verification-first and confirms the merchant-specific conversion path before promising automation.
